The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists against patronising fake vehicle documentation agents.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, gave the warning in a statement on Thursday.
According to Osiyemi, findings show that some unpatriotic individuals were issuing fake vehicle documents such as roadworthiness certificate, to unsuspecting motorists across the state.
“The ministry strongly condemns this fraudulent practice and wishes to state unequivocally that vehicle documentation is a statutory function carried out only by duly authorised agencies of the ministry.
“Any document issued outside these official channels is invalid and the issuance constitutes a serious offence,” he said.
Osiyemi said that patronising unauthorised individuals or groups for vehicle documentation not only endangered public safety but also exposed affected motorists to legal consequences.
“The ministry assures the public that, in collaboration with security agencies, enforcement operations have been intensified to apprehend those involved in such illegal activity.
“Anyone caught engaging in such acts will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
Osiyemi encouraged members of the public to verify the authenticity of service providers before engaging them and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities or call the following phone numbers: 09020004000 or 09020009000.
