The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has cautioned motorists against speeding following a crash that claimed one life and left three others seriously injured.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki ‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌said the crash occurred along the Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel and involved a grey Lexus Jeep 350, with registration number LSD 554 KV.

He said preliminary security information indicated that the vehicle lost control, collided with a roadside pole and overturned, resulting in three serious injuries and one fatality.

He said LASTMA operatives monitoring vehicular movements along the Coastal Road swiftly mobilised to the scene, secured the affected section and facilitated emergency response.

“The three critically injured victims were extricated from the crash scene with the assistance of good Samaritans and promptly conveyed to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical attention,” he said.

Bakare-Oki said the incident was subsequently brought under control, while relevant emergency and security agencies were engaged to carry out rescue, investigative and safety procedures.

He added that security personnel from Victoria Island provided reinforcement, while LASTMA officers successfully removed the mangled vehicle from the carriageway.

“This was to avert the possibility of a secondary collision or further catastrophic consequences, thereby restoring unhindered vehicular movement along the axis,” he said.

Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise vigilance, manage their speed and comply with traffic regulations.

He emphasised that speeding, reckless driving and loss of vehicular control could have devastating and irreversible consequences for motorists and other road users.

He also urged motorists and members of the public to promptly report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through the LASTMA toll-free short code 3367 for swift intervention.(NAN)
