Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has urged students to approach the new academic session with renewed hope, determination and confidence.
Hamzat made the call in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Tunde Alao, on Sunday.
He described education as the foundation for building a stronger and more prosperous Lagos, with classrooms shaping the state’s future.
The deputy governor welcomed learners, teachers and administrators returning to public and private schools across Lagos for the new academic session.
“To every learner returning to school, welcome to a new beginning and new possibilities. Dream boldly, study diligently and believe in yourself,” he said.
Hamzat urged students to remain focused on their studies, stressing that their present learning would significantly influence their future opportunities and achievements.
“The future you desire begins with what you learn today,” the deputy governor said.
He also commended teachers for their dedication and sacrifices, describing them as indispensable partners in developing Lagos’ human capital.
Hamzat said teachers play a critical role in shaping young minds through classroom instruction, encouragement and the discovery of individual talents.
“We celebrate our teachers and appreciate the enormous responsibility they carry,” he said.
He said every lesson taught, child encouraged and talent discovered represented another step toward achieving a better and more developed Lagos.
The deputy governor called for stronger collaboration between government, parents, educators, communities and the private sector to strengthen education delivery.
He stressed the need to ensure every child had access to quality, technology-driven and future-ready education capable of preparing learners for changing global realities.
Hamzat said such collaboration would help create an education system that equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence required for future challenges.
He wished the entire education community a peaceful, productive and successful academic year, urging all stakeholders to remain committed to supporting learners.
Hamzat said: “Our children are our greatest investment. The Lagos of tomorrow is already sitting in our classrooms today. Let us give them every opportunity to succeed.” (NAN)
