The Nigerian Navy Military School (NNMS), Ikot Ntuen, Akwa Ibom, has tasked its graduating sailors to exude high degree of discipline and resilience in their chosen endeavours.
Rear Adm. Jonathan Mamman, the Governing Board Chairman, made the call at the school’s 4th Speech and Prize Day ceremony in Ikot Ntuen on Friday.
Mamman charged the young sailors to see their graduation as a key to unlocking the door of greater dreams.
He said that although the training they had received from the school would open doors of opportunities, only good character would sustain them.
The board chairman expressed delight at the level of commitment, hard work, and dedication to academic excellence by the school.
“This event is a testament to your unrelenting pursuit of knowledge and unwavering determination to succeed,” he said.
Mamman commended the instructors for their contributions in shaping the minds of the graduating sailors.
Earlier, the Commandant, NNMS, Navy Cpt. Akinlolu Akinyinka, said that the prize giving ceremony was a tribute to excellence, celebration of discipline and enduring value of commitment and growth of the institution.
Akinyinka said that in the past six years, the young sailors had undergone rigorous academic, military and moral training that could sustain them in life.
The commandant revealed that the school secured 100 per cent excellence in the 2025/2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
He further said that 57 out of 69 students scored above 290 in the 2026 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination.
“These young sailors have been formed by fires of structure and strengthened by the virtues of service, respect and resilience.
“They have learned that excellence is not a one-time achievement, but a daily habit,” he said.
The Guest Lecturer, Prof. Imaobong Akpan, charged the graduating sailors to exhibit exemplary character as they face another phase in life.
Speaking on the topic: “From the Parade Ground to the Wider World: Preparing for Leadership, Building Character and Serving the Motherland” Akpan said that discipline should be a watchword.
Akpan, a professor of Education in the University of Uyo, urged the young sailors to put the experience gathered from the school to use as they progress.
“Maintain good character, discipline and sense of service as you are leaving this school,” she said.
