The Kebbi Government has awarded contracts for the construction of Yauri-Zamare Road and Yabo Road in Yauri town to improve road connectivity and infrastructure in the area.

Gov. Nasir Idris made this known on Tuesday at the flag-off of an empowerment programme for 1,500 beneficiaries organised by the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Tanko Sununu.

Idris said the projects were part of his administration’s efforts to execute infrastructure and other development projects with direct and lasting impact on the people.

He assured residents of Yauri Emirate that the government would continue to prioritise projects that would enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activities and improve the wellbeing of the people.

The governor commended Sununu for initiating the empowerment programme, describing it as a commendable effort to support constituents, especially the vulnerable members of society.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and financial support provided to them to establish sustainable sources of livelihood.

Idris also called on well-to-do individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture by supporting vulnerable people and contributing to the development of their communities.

Earlier, Sununu, who is now the APC candidate for Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski Federal Constituency, thanked the governor for his support for the people of the emirate and for approving development projects aimed at improving their living conditions.

He said the empowerment programme was designed to support youths, farmers, women and other vulnerable members of communities across Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski.

“The programme targets 1,500 beneficiaries, with items and support including 80 water-pumping machines, three goats each for 120 beneficiaries, fish-farming kits for 20 beneficiaries, fertiliser for 100 farmers and N50,000 cash grants for 1,000 beneficiaries,” he said.

Sununu said the intervention was aimed at strengthening household livelihoods, supporting agricultural activities and creating opportunities for beneficiaries to become economically self-reliant.
