Swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch C corps members posted to Lagos, at NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has charged corps members posted to the state to make meaningful contributions during their national service.
Sanwo-Olu gave the charge on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch C corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
The governor was represented by Mrs Toyin Oke-Osayantolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
“Your contribution may appear small in your estimation, but it could make a significant difference in the life of another person or your host community,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor charged the corps members to identify and maximise opportunities in Lagos, stressing that academic qualifications alone might not be enough to effectively navigate today’s competitive world.
“You must complement your education with practical skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving to navigate today’s competitive world and achieve meaningful progress.”
The governor noted that the orientation course was designed to shape corps members’ character and understanding of national responsibility while preparing them for challenges ahead.
He advised the corps members to take every aspect of the orientation course seriously and imbibe the values of the scheme.
Sanwo-Olu said the orientation course would offer opportunities for the corps members to interact irrespective of their diverse backgrounds, thereby fostering national unity.
Sanwo-Olu said,“Prioritise building meaningful relationships, learning from one another and appreciating the diversity that makes Nigeria unique.”
He assured the corps members that Lagos State Government would continue to provide an enabling environment for diligent national service.
“Security of lives and property of all residents remains a priority of this administration, and we will continue working closely with relevant security agencies,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu praised the Lagos State Coordinator of NYSC and her management team members for successfully commencing the orientation course.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the oath of allegiance through which the graduates were officially inducted into the national service was administered by Justice Layinka Ladun.
Ladun represented the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
In her remarks, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, described the orientation course as an important foundation for national service.
Salmwang said that it would provide the corps members an opportunity for teamwork, leadership skills development and deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s value.
She disclosed that 3,224 corps members accommodated in the Lagos camp had been successfully registered alongside 4,695 who were sent to Delta, Ondo, Osun, Kwara and Edo due to limited accomodation in Lagos
“Dear corps members, your participation in the NYSC is a privilege and a responsibility. You are entering a service that places emphasis on character, discipline, service to humanity and national integration.
“I therefore implore you to be disciplined, and abide by the rules guiding the orientation course.
“Maintain the highest level of integrity, remember that you are representing yourselves and your families.”
The coordinator thanked Sanwo-Olu for continued support, expressing NYSC’s commitment to corps members’ welfare and security during the orientation course. (NAN)
