Gov. Umaru Bago of Niger on Friday urged newly deployed corps members in the state to use their orientation period to acquire new skills and develop capacities.
The governor said the initiative would enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
He stated this during the swearing-in of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Paiko Local Government Area of the state.
Bago, who was represented by Mrs Martina Ibrahim-Shuaibu, NYSC Coordinator in the state, said the orientation programme provides corps members with opportunities to acquire skills, interact with people from diverse backgrounds and prepare themselves for the challenges of the service year.
He urged them to actively participate in physical training, lectures, skills acquisition programmes and other activities lined up for the orientation exercise.
According to him, the NYSC remains an important platform for leadership development, national integration and youth participation in nation-building.
He also charged the corps members to embrace discipline, patriotism and commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The governor stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and national unity, urging them to respect constituted authorities and demonstrate good conduct throughout their service year.
He urged the corps members to contribute positively to their host communities and serve as responsible ambassadors of their families, institutions and the nation.
Earlier, the Chief Judge of the state, Hajiya Halima Abdulmalik, represented by Mr Ishaku Usman, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members.
