Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Thursday intensified its advocacy against Domestic and Gender Based Violence (DGBV) in Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the initiative took the campaign to communities across the LCDA through sensitisation and advocacy drives.
The campaign aimed to educate residents on the dangers and consequences of domestic and sexual violence on families and society.
The advocacy team was led by the council Chairman, Mrs Oluyemisi Rosiji, who was represented by the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs Omolara Ajayi.
Ajayi was accompanied by Mrs Adebisi Bakare, Head of WAPA, Mrs Bukola Adebayo, Chief of Staff, and other council officials.
The team urged residents to reject all forms of violence in homes and communities.
They encouraged victims, survivors and witnesses to speak up and report cases promptly before they escalated.
The campaigners said that domestic and sexual violence was not a private matter but a social menace requiring collective action.
They urged residents to embrace the slogan, “If You See Something, Say Something,” and become active voices against violence, abuse and intimidation in their communities.
Ajayi urged residents to break the culture of silence and report cases of domestic or gender based violence to the appropriate authorities.
She reaffirmed the council’s commitment to promoting a safe, peaceful and violence free community. (NAN)
