) The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, a public holiday to enable Muslim faithfuls to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid in remembrance of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the federal government in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani on Friday in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo, while felicitating with Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, urged them to use the holiday in rendering prayers to Allah on behalf of the country.

“The period should also serve as a time for collective prayer for the peace and cohesion of the country as national unity remains a shared responsibility.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them,” the minister said.

The minister called on citizens to observe the celebration with restraint and mutual respect while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful eid celebration.

He restated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will continue to prioritise the safety of lives and property across the country.

Tunji-Ojo said that the administration will continue to ensure that peace is maintained across the country at all times.(NAN)
