) The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reiterated commitment to collaborate with the Federal and State Governments and other development partners on child protection initiatives.

UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell, made the commitment at a news conference on Friday in Sokoto.

Russell also called on communities, development partners, and young people to support and ensure every child survived, thrived, learned, and reached their full potentialities.

“I met children and young people whose curiosity, creativity and ambition remind us why investing in them is the wisest investment in the future.

“My visit to Sokoto has been truly inspiring, both at the Rumbukawa Primary Health Centre and Digital Village and seen what is possible when leadership, partnership and community commitment come together.

“I met with dedicated health workers, teachers and local officials and mothers, who are determined to give their children the best possible start in life,” she said.

Russell said that the choices made for children would further shape Nigeria for decades to come.

According to her, every child who is healthy, learning and protected strengthens not only their own future, but the future of their community, the state and the nation.

“UNICEF is proud to be a trusted partner to further the lives of children.” she said.

Earlier, the executive director had a parley with Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir, and inspected some ongoing project sites.

Officials at the occasion include Chief of Staff, UNICEF, Mr Tad Milly; UNICEF Representative, Nigeria, Wafaa Saeed,
