CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Ltd. has pledged to deliver the Shagamu-Iperu road in line with the Federal Government’s specifications.
The company says it has complied with Federal Ministry of Works’ directives to ensure the reconstruction of the road met required quality standards.
Its Project Manager, Mr Gan Chang, made the disclosure, while briefing journalists at the project site on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, during an inspection of the project in June, had expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the concrete.
Umahi had therefore, directed CBC, the contractor handling the reconstruction of the road, to suspend pavement works temporarily and review its concrete pavement mix design.
Chang said the company had implemented all the corrections directed by the minister following his inspection of the project in June.
“We are following the directives of the honourable minister based on the instructions given.
“We have adjusted the mix design of the pavement concrete, and it now meets the required national standards.
“We will continue to maintain high-quality workmanship and deliver all our projects successfully, as promised,” he said.
Also, CBC’s Southwest Public Relations Officer, Mr Ayodele Abayomi, confirmed that the contractor had complied with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Works to adjust the concrete mixing ratio.
Abayomi, who is also the company’s Human Resources Manager, said that work was progressing steadily, with two pavement machines operating simultaneously on the project.
“We have changed the mixing ratio as directed by the Honourable Minister, and as you can see, work is progressing rapidly.
“As long as we continue to follow the required standards and the minister’s directives, we are confident of delivering a successful project that will provide road users with a smooth ride.
“We have also commenced work on the median crash barriers in line with the minister’s directive to raise their height.
‘’The review of the streetlight installation is ongoing from Shagamu to the Area Command axis,” he said.
Abayomi said that weather conditions had affected the pace of work, but noted that the contractor remained committed to completing the project as soon as possible.
He said also that more than 45 per cent of the stretch from the Ijebu-Ode axis to Kilometre 13 at Ikene Junction had been completed.
He assured Nigerians that there was no major challenge delaying the project. (NAN)
