The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has extended food relief to persons with disabilities, widows and other vulnerable residents in Ogun to ease hardship.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Kwapchi Bata-Hamman, Special Assistant to the President on Media and ICT, Office of the Vice-President, on Wednesday in Abuja.
The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, represented by the Wife of the Vice-President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, said Ogun was the 32nd state to benefit from the programme.
She said the food outreach programme, introduced in 2024, was supported by an anonymous donor and the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa).
“The intervention reflects RHI’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians and improving their welfare in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” she said.
“On this note, to the glory of God and for the benefit of humanity, I hereby hand over these food items to the First Lady of Ogun State for onward distribution to the beneficiaries,” she said.
Tinubu, who announced Akwa Ibom as the next beneficiary state, commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun and his wife, Bamidele, for supporting the initiative.
Abiodun commended RHI for its interventions, assuring that his administration would continue collaborating with the Federal Government to improve residents’ welfare.
“Genuine progress is measured by the comfort of the elderly, the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities, access to education for children, and the ability of widows to provide for their families,” he said.
The governor said vulnerable citizens’ needs should remain central to public policy, stressing that disability or vulnerability should never be a basis for exclusion.
He added that sustainable food security required improved agricultural production, processing, marketing and rural enterprise development to strengthen livelihoods and local economies.
Earlier, the governor’s wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, described the intervention as a practical demonstration of care that could improve vulnerable families’ livelihoods and economic stability.
She commended Tinubu for sustaining the interventions nationwide, particularly those providing direct support to vulnerable groups.
The Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to restoring dignity to families through social interventions across Nigeria.
Udoh said the organisation allocated 100 million dollars annually for interventions, with 50 per cent earmarked for Nigeria.
He described the partnership with RHI as strategic to delivering lasting impact and improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians. (NAN)
