The Police Command in Cross River and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have explored ways to protect vulnerable persons, address community concerns, and promote public safety in the state.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Ajo Ordue, made this known on Tuesday when he hosted the Head of Office and Programme Coordinator of UNFPA’s Cross River Sub-Office, Dr Andrew Kirima, at the command headquarters in Calabar.

Ordue received Kirima alongside members of the command’s management team to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the UNFPA.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working with development partners and other stakeholders to protect lives and property.

He said law enforcement agencies and development organisations could combine their efforts to address community concerns, protect vulnerable persons, and improve public safety.

Ordue also pledged to sustain stakeholder engagement, uphold professionalism and accountability, and build public confidence in the police.

On his part, Kirima said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the NPF and the United Nations in Cross River as well as identify areas of mutual interest for further collaboration.

According to him, UNFPA promotes sexual and reproductive health, supports efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and advances the protection of vulnerable populations.(NAN)
