Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi has flagged off the construction and upgrading of township roads in four communities in Birnin Kebbi, as part of efforts to improve transportation and stimulate socio-economic activities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects cover three kilometres (km) of road in Aliero Quarters, 1.6 km in Bayan Azbir, 3 km in Bayan Taxaco, and the upgrading of the road linking the Police Station to Nagari College.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremonies on Tuesday, Idris said the projects demonstrate his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and addressing the infrastructure needs of residents.

He commended the communities for their patience and continued support, noting that some residents had previously expressed doubts about the government’s ability to execute the projects.

“Promise made, promise fulfilled. We have said it, and you people have been very patient. I know there are some people who said that this road will not be executed by Kaura.

“Today, you can attest to the fact that we are flagging off the project,” he said.

The governor, who spoke while flagging off the construction of a 3-km asphalt road in Aliero Quarters, said his administration would sustain efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions across the state.

“The name that has been given to me, the architect of modern Kebbi, has come to stay,” he declared.

Idris also expressed confidence in the contractors handling the projects, including Habibu Engineering, ABK Synergy Construction Company and New Horizon Construction Company.

He urged the contractors to deliver quality work that would stand the test of time.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Abdullahi Umar-Muslim, said the projects were among 12 road projects recently approved by the governor.

Umar-Muslim said some of the projects had already been flagged off, while work on others would commence as part of the administration’s infrastructure development programme.

He said preliminary clearance work had commenced on two of the three roads in Aliero Quarters, expressing optimism that the contractor would complete the assignment within three months.

The commissioner assured residents that the ministry would monitor the projects to ensure compliance with approved standards, specifications and timelines.

He said the projects would improve accessibility, ease transportation challenges and facilitate the movement of people, goods and services within the benefiting communities.

The commissioner added that the projects would also strengthen Birnin Kebbi’s urban road network and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
