The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging commitment to national unity.

The State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, in his Independence Day message to Nigerians, also urged citizens to preserve the gains of nationhood.

He said Oct. 1 was not merely a date on Nigeria’s calendar but a reminder of the courage, sacrifices and determination of the country’s founding nationalists.

According to him, the anniversary also provides an opportunity for every generation to reflect on its responsibility to preserve Nigeria’s unity and advance the nation’s development.

“Our Independence anniversary is not merely a date on our national calendar. It is a reminder of the courage, sacrifices and determination of those who fought for Nigeria’s independence.

“It is also a reminder of the responsibility that every generation carries to preserve and advance the gains of our nationhood.

“As we celebrate, we must renew our commitment to the unity, peace and progress of our dear country,” Ojelabi said.

The APC chairman said the country’s independence should inspire citizens to contribute positively to national development and support democratic institutions.

He urged Lagos APC members to remain united, organised and committed to the party’s programmes as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

“For us in the All Progressives Congress, Lagos State, the responsibility is clear.

“We must strengthen our structures, deepen our engagement with the people and work collectively for the success of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in Lagos State.

“Lagos must be ready,” he said.

Ojelabi said the party must ensure effective organisation, communication and mobilisation across the state as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.

“Ready to organise.Ready to engage. Ready to communicate. Ready to mobilise. Ready to participate,” he said.

He ,however, urged party members to conduct their political activities responsibly, saying campaigns should focus on facts, ideas, records and the future of Lagos State.

“But as we enter the campaign season, we must never lose sight of the democratic values for which generations before us made sacrifices.

“We must campaign with facts and ideas. We must engage our people with confidence and respect. We must defend our records and present our vision for the future.

“We must conduct ourselves in a manner that strengthens, rather than weakens, public confidence in our democratic process,” Ojelabi said.

The APC chairman said every polling unit, ward and community remained important to the party’s organisation and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Every polling unit counts. Every ward counts. Every community counts. Every party member has a role to play.

“As we approach 2027, I therefore call on every APC leader, stakeholder and member across Lagos State to take ownership of the task before us.

“Let us put the interest of the party and the progress of our State above personal differences,” he said.

Ojelabi called for greater unity among party members, urging them to take the APC’s message to every ward, community and polling unit across Lagos.

“Let us strengthen our unity. Let us take our message to every ward, every community and every polling unit.

“Let us mobilise with discipline and purpose,” he said.

He also urged members to work collectively for the success of President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the state during the 2027 elections.

“Let us work together for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in Lagos State.

“As Lagosians, we understand the importance of political participation. Lagos has consistently occupied a significant place in Nigeria’s political history.

“Our State must continue to demonstrate political maturity, organisational strength and respect for democratic values,” Ojelabi said.

Ojelabi said Nigeria’s journey since independence had placed a responsibility on citizens to contribute to the country’s progress and protect its unity.

“The responsibility now rests with us. Let us rise to it with courage, discipline, unity and a deep commitment to the progress of our nation.

“May the sacrifices of our heroes never be forgotten,” he said.

He urged Nigerians, particularly Lagosians, to celebrate the anniversary with renewed commitment to national unity, peaceful coexistence and development. (NAN)
