Sani made the call in his 66th Independence Anniversary address titled, “Nigeria at 66: The Nation We Owe Our Children,” on Thursday in Kaduna.
The governor expressed gratitude to Almighty God for sustaining Nigeria’s journey since independence and honoured the nation’s founding fathers for their sacrifices.
He described Nigeria as the world’s most populous black nation, saying its cultural richness, human ingenuity and resilience remained sources of African pride.
Sani commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to translating the Renewed Hope Agenda into prosperity and opportunities for Nigerians.
He said peace and stability were indispensable to achieving the nation’s aspirations, stressing that citizens must be able to pursue their livelihoods without fear.
The governor said his administration, working with the Federal Government, remained committed to strengthening security and improving public safety across Kaduna State.
He urged residents to embrace diversity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, while rejecting prejudices capable of weakening the bonds among communities.
“Let us reject prejudices that weaken our bonds and resist attempts to turn our differences into instruments of division,” he said.
Sani also called for greater accountability among citizens and leaders, saying patriotism must be reflected in integrity, responsible conduct and concern for others.
He noted that Nigeria had recorded 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, describing the achievement as an opportunity to deepen democratic governance.
According to him, democracy fulfils its purpose when citizens are heard, institutions inspire confidence and public service protects human dignity.
The governor reminded public officials that they would ultimately account for their stewardship before Almighty God.
He urged public officials to allow wisdom, integrity and compassion to guide their decisions, while protecting public resources and improving the lives of citizens.
Sani said a new and better Nigeria was achievable through collective efforts at both state and national levels.
He urged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s peace, work for its prosperity and strengthen the bonds sustaining the country’s common destiny.
The governor wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for God’s protection, blessings and guidance for the country.(NAN)
