The Gospel Believers Mission (GBM) has announced the passing of its General Overseer, Rev. Ezra Jakko.
Pastor Dominic Omokaro, the church’s Senior Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
Omokaro said Jakko, a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army, passed unto glory on Sept. 10.
He said the announcement was made by the Board of Trustees of GBM, in consultation with the Council of Ministers and the family of the late general overseer.
Omokaro said the late Jakko was a distinguished servant of God, accomplished military officer, administrator, visionary leader and philanthropist.
Omokaro noted that before his call to full-time Christian leadership, Jakko served the Nigerian Army for over 34 years, rising to the rank of Major General in the Nigerian Army Finance Corps.
He said the deceased served in several strategic appointments, including Chief of Accounts and Budget (CAB) for both the Nigerian Army and Defence Headquarters, before becoming the Pioneer Director-General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, from where he retired in 2023.
“Jakko assumed leadership of GBM as General Overseer in 2019, following the transition of the founding General Superintendent.
“Under his leadership, Gospel Believers Mission experienced significant growth and greater visibility, while its spiritual, organisational and humanitarian engagements were strengthened.”
Omokaro said Jakko’s concern for the poor and vulnerable led to the establishment of the Gospel Believers Mission Hand of Mercy Outreach and Foundation, through which he championed humanitarian assistance.
Beyond ministry, Omokaro said the late general overseer was also an entrepreneur and agricultural investor, being the Founder and Chairman of Golden Finger Farms and Ranches Ltd, with farms across Abuja, Nasarawa, Adamawa and Ogun States.
The senior special adviser described Jakko’s death as a profound loss to the church, the Christian community, the Nigerian Army and the business community.
“Burial arrangements, as released by the Council of Ministers in consultation with the Board of Trustees and the family, are as follows:
“The Service of Songs will hold on Sept. 21 at his residence, 15 Freetown Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, while the interdenominational Service of Songs will hold on Sept. 22 at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre, Abuja.
“Funeral Service will hold Sept. 23, at All Saints Military Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro,’’ he said.
Omokaro said interment would follow immediately after the funeral service at the National Military Cemetery, Airport Road, Abuja.
According to him, the Christian community, members of the mission, the Nigerian Army family, and the general public are invited to join in celebrating his life and legacy.
