The Kogi State Government has proposed an N8.55 billion social investment package targeting 281,750 beneficiaries across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The state Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Lokoja.
The statement detailed the summary of proposed beneficiaries and cost estimates of the package.
Idris, who is also the Chairman of the Kogi State Commissioners’ Forum, said the proposal covered various Disbursement-Linked Indicators (DLIs).
He said the interventions include social transfers, livelihood support, climate-smart public works, community infrastructure, agricultural inputs and expansion of the State Social Register.
According to him, under the Social Cash Transfer Unit (SCTU), DLI 1.1 is expected to benefit 5,000 people across the 21 LGAs, with component cost projected at N1.237 billion.
Idris said the document showed another SCTU component, DLI 1.3A, with target of 15,000 beneficiaries across the state through livelihood support programmes and projected to cost N2 billion.
He added that the Labour-Intensive Public Works (LIPW) component, under DLI 1.5A would engage 3,400 beneficiaries across the 21 LGAs.
He said the climate-smart public works programme had an estimated cost of N1.088 billion.
The commissioner said that the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), through DLI 1.4A, was expected to support basic services and infrastructure.
According to him, the programme proposes 1,000 beneficiaries per community across the 21 LGAs, with an estimated cost of N2.072 billion.
Idris said the FADAMA component, covering DLI 2.1 and DLI 2.3, was projected to benefit 7,350 people across the state with beneficiaries expected to receive support through agricultural inputs and assets at an estimated cost of N1.854 billion.
He said the State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU), under DLI 4.1 and DLI 4.2, was expected to cover 250,000 beneficiaries, with component focusing on expanding the State Social Register across the 21 LGAs.
He added that the expansion of the State Social Register had an estimated cost of N300.55 million.
The proposed interventions, he said were expected to strengthen social protection and improve livelihoods among vulnerable households across Kogi.
He said the interventions were also expected to promote climate-smart employment, support agricultural activities and improve access to basic community infrastructure. (NAN)
