Monday Onyeme Foundation Scholarship Scheme, says it will spend about N170 million as scholarship on 853 students of Delta North origin in various institutions of higher learning nationwide.
The Delta Deputy Governor and founder of the Foundation, Sir Monday Onyeme, said this in a statement issued on Monday in Asaba.
He said the 853 successful candidates emerged from Delta North Senatorial District, adding that more students passed in this year’s edition because they were better prepared for the qualifying examination.
Onyeme said: “At the end of the qualifying aptitude test held for the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency over the weekend, 340 students passed.
“It will be recalled that 212 students passed the aptitude test in the Ika Federal Constituency, while 301 passed in the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.
“With this figure, the foundation will spend more than N170 million on the successful candidates.’’
He said that he personally supervised the selection process to ensure that the most qualified applicants were selected.
“Those, who took the first, second, and third positions will receive N400, 000, N350, 000 and N300, 000 respectively.
“The top scorers from the three constituencies of Delta North will receive an extra N200,000 each while the second and third positions will get an extra N150,000 and N100,000 respectively,” he said.
Responding, Agenu Miracle, one of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the deputy governor and to the foundation for the scholarship award.
She said the aptitude test added value to their academic pursuits as the exercise encouraged students to study and concentrate on their academic work.(NAN)
