Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State says the state government is taking concrete steps to establish a permanent orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna.
The governor made the commitment on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members in Kaduna.
Sani, represented by the state’s Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, restated the state government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC in providing a safe and conducive environment for corps members.
While congratulating the agile youths on their graduation from various institutions and successful mobilisation for national service, the governor urged the newly deployed corps members to discover their potential and make lasting impacts.
He said their participation reflected the core objectives of the NYSC scheme, particularly national unity, mutual understanding, and selfless service among Nigerian youths.
Sani described Kaduna as a state of diverse cultures, resilient people, and strong commitment to peace, innovation, and sustainable growth.
The governor, therefore, urged them to immerse themselves in the state’s culture, engage respectfully with communities, and leave positive footprints during their service year.
According to him, the three-week orientation course was designed to develop leadership, discipline, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and patriotic values among the corps members.
He encouraged the corps members to participate fully in all camp programmes, saying that the lessons and experiences acquired would become lifelong assets in their personal and professional journeys.
Sani charged them to uphold integrity, discipline, and exemplary conduct, while respecting camp rules, authority, and friendships that promote unity and peaceful coexistence.
The governor urged the corps members to utilise their talents, creativity, and innovative ideas to grow, lead, and make meaningful contributions to society.
He assured them that their safety remained a priority, adding that the state would continue collaborating with security agencies and NYSC management.
Sani urged the corps members to remain vigilant, safeguard their belongings, follow safety guidelines, and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
Earlier, the Coordinator of NYSC in Kaduna State, Mrs Efeke Dadaza, appreciated the state government for its continued support toward the successful conduct of the orientation course.
Dadaza said the government’s commitment had helped provide an enabling environment for the welfare and security of corps members.
She described the orientation as the beginning of the corps members’ year-long commitment to national service, civic responsibility, unity, and patriotism.
The coordinator said the administration of the oath of allegiance would formally enlist them into the scheme.
She urged them to serve Nigeria faithfully, uphold the constitution, and demonstrate discipline, dedication, integrity, and patriotism throughout their service year.
Dadaza said the NYSC was established to promote national unity, foster mutual understanding, and mobilise Nigerian graduates’ energy, creativity, and talents for national development.
The coordinator encouraged the corps members to embrace tolerance, selfless service, and respect for Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
She said the three-week orientation would feature physical training, leadership and citizenship lectures, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, sports, drills, and cultural programmes.
Dadaza urged the corps members to participate actively in all activities to maximise opportunities for learning, leadership development, and self-development.
She assured them that the NYSC management placed the highest priority on their welfare and security throughout the orientation period.
The coordinator urged them to remain security conscious, comply with safety guidelines, avoid unnecessary risks, and promptly report concerns through appropriate NYSC channels.
She challenged the corps members to cultivate the spirit of teamwork and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of their responsibilities as representatives of the scheme.
Dadaza expressed confidence that the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained during the orientation would adequately prepare them for the tasks ahead. (NAN)
