
Nigeria’s weightlifters continued their impressive outing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with Folashade Lawal and Onome Didih winning gold medals.
Lawal produced a flawless performance to win the women’s 58kg title after successfully completing all six attempts across the snatch and clean and jerk.
The Nigerian lifter recorded a combined total of 229kg to finish atop the podium and secure another gold medal for Team Nigeria.
In the women’s 53kg event, Didih delivered a record-breaking performance to claim Nigeria’s fifth gold medal of the competition.
She set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a 93kg lift before raising the standard again with 113kg in the clean and jerk.
Didih also established a new Commonwealth Games record with a combined total of 206kg to seal a dominant victory.
India’s Gyaneshwari Yadav finished second with a total lift of 199kg to win silver.
Canada’s Rebeka Groulx claimed the bronze medal after recording a combined total of 178kg. (NAN)
