The Delta Government has commenced emergency repairs on the failed Mosogar-Oghara section of the Warri-Benin Highway after Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s directive.
The Delta State Governor, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori, gave the directive for emergency repairs on July 23.
The Commissioner for Works (Urban and Highway), Mr Reuben Izeze, announced this at a news conference on Thursday in Asaba.
According to Izeze, the emergency intervention is aimed at restoring safer and smoother transportation.
“The decision followed the increased concerns from motorists over the deteriorating condition of the busy route, where potholes and pavement failures had caused delays and safety challenges,” he said.
He explained that the state had to carry out the emergency repairs even though it’s a federal highway, due to its importance to regional commerce, public movements and economic activities across the South-South region.
The commissioner disclosed that Obakpor Engineering Construction Company had moved its equipment and materials to the site and had commenced work to repair the damaged portions of the highway.
He said the intervention would improve traffic flow while awaiting for a comprehensive reconstruction plans from the Federal Government and other long-term measures to restore the highway.
Izeze described the Warri-Benin Highway as a vital link connecting the South-South region with other parts of Nigeria, stressing that “it supports the movement of goods, agricultural produce and petroleum supplies.
“Residents and motorists are expected to experience relief as the temporary intervention tackles immediate challenges, reduces disruptions.
“It also demonstrates Delta State’s commitment to responsive governance and public welfare,” Izeze added.(NAN)
