‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌ The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has congratulated Prof. Emeritus Ishaq Olanrewaju-Oloyede on his turbaning as the Kuliya of the Sokoto Caliphate.

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, turbaned Oloyede, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, as Kuliyan Sokoto, in his palace in Sokoto.

This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the union, Malam Suleiman Dagbo, on Sunday in Ilorin.

According to the statement, Alhaji Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, National President of IEDPU, described Prof. Olanrewaju-Oloyede as a distinguished patriot worthy of celebration.

Abdulmalik noted that the new Kuliya, who is the immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), said the position was a bright feather to his cap of glory.

He explained that the professor emeritus had paid his dues as an academic, administrator and public servant, saying that the career of the honouree marked him out as an uncommon unifier and consequential patriot.

The IEDPU president praised Olanrewaju-Oloyede for positively representing Islam and the Ilorin community over the years, explaining that quite a number of compatriots across the nation rightly regard the NSCIA’s scribe as a true indigene of Ilorin.

The union also thanked the Sultan of Sokoto for identifying and honouring the leadership qualities of the renowned scholar, saying that it always takes the deep to identify the deep.

They, therefore, wished Oloyede a very long and rewarding reign as the Kuliya of the Sokoto Caliphate.
