President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign has received a grassroots boost in Cross River, following the endorsement of his second-term ambition by residents of Mkpani community in Yakurr Local Government Area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the endorsement came during a visit by Sen. Williams Eteng, Deputy Director-General (South-South) of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), to his hometown on Friday night.

The residents, through unanimous voice votes, pledged their support for Tinubu’s re-election, following the lawmaker’s call for continued backing of the president ahead of the 2027 general election.

Eteng who currently represents Cross River Central Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC), received a rousing reception as hundreds of residents escorted him through major streets of the community.

A community member, Mr Jones Abel, described Eteng as a committed representative who had continued to identify with his people since joining partisan politics.

Abel however, said the community was disappointed by the APC decision not to grant the senator a return ticket, adding that his performance in the senate had earned him the people’s support.

“I am speaking the minds of the people. Judging from the crowd you see here, you don’t really need any further pronouncement to know that Eteng is loved by the people,” he said.

He explained that the senator’s interventions in the community, including the provision of streetlights, had further strengthened residents’ confidence in his leadership.

Similarly, a female resident said the community’s political loyalty to the lawmaker remained firm, irrespective of the outcome of his political ambition.

She said the residents would support whoever the senator directed them to support, particularly Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“With or without a return ticket, we will continue to support whoever he directs us to.

“That is why we are fully behind him in his support for President Tinubu’s re-election,” she said.(NAN)
