The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, Mr Simeon Akpanudom, says policing goes beyond law enforcement.

Akpanudom said this on Wednesday in a statement signed by the FCID spokesperson, ASP Aminat Mayegun, to commemorate the 2026 Customer Service Week.

The week, under the theme ‘Going the Extra Mile’, focuses on promoting quality service and positive relationships between the police and members of the public.

According to Akpanudom, going the extra mile in policing means serving the public with integrity, empathy, fairness and professionalism.

He said it also involved respecting the rights and dignity of members of the public in all interactions.

Akpanudom said the theme aligned with the vision and strategic policing priorities of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu.

He said Disu was committed to building a professional, accountable, service-driven and people-centred Nigeria Police Force.

The AIG urged officers and men of the FCID Annex to listen attentively, communicate respectfully and demonstrate professionalism in their duties.

He described members of the public as partners in policing, saying their cooperation remained essential to effective crime prevention and investigation.

Akpanudom said timely and credible information, constructive feedback and public support were also vital to public safety.

He said the theme should transcend the celebration and become an integral part of everyday policing and public service.

The AIG reiterated the FCID Annex’s commitment to strengthening public trust through quality service delivery, transparency and accountability.

He also cited responsiveness and professionalism as key principles guiding the department’s service to the public.

As part of activities marking the week, the FCID Annex distributed Customer Service Week awareness books and branded stickers to members of the public.

Akpanudom said the initiative was aimed at promoting excellent service, professionalism and positive police-public relations.

He said the materials would remind the public and police personnel that every interaction could build confidence and strengthen trust.

The AIG added that such interactions could also enhance the image of the Nigeria Police Force. (NAN)
