Rugby : Nigeria’s Stallions beat Ghana, fall to Morocco in Africa men’s sevens
Nigeria’s Stallions recorded a win and a defeat on the opening day of the African Men’s Sevens Series in Kampala, Uganda.
The Stallions suffered a 36-5 defeat to Morocco in their second match of the competition.
Morocco took control early in spite of expectations of a close contest and went into the interval with a 14-5 lead.
Nigeria struggled to regain their footing after the break as Morocco increased the intensity and extended the lead to 26-5.
The North Africans maintained their dominance in the closing stages to secure the 36-5 victory.
The result left Nigeria with one victory and one defeat from their opening two matches.
Earlier, the Stallions had opened their campaign with a convincing 26-5 victory over Ghana’s Black Eagles.
Nigeria controlled the game from the start, putting the Ghanaian defence under sustained pressure.
Captain Oghenesuvwe Obano was influential, providing a key attacking outlet as the Stallions took control across the pitch.
Nigeria led 14-5 before continuing to pile on the pressure and eventually securing a comfortable victory.
The Stallions will face Zimbabwe in their final pool match on Sunday.
Zimbabwe, regarded as one of the highly rated teams in the competition, will provide Nigeria with another major test.
The Stallions will be hoping to build momentum ahead of the quarter-final fixtures. (NAN)
