The Labour Party presidential candidate, Dr Chibuzor Okereke has tasked Nigerians on the need for greater interest in political participation as election of good officials have obvious positive impacts.
In a statement on Thursday, Okereke insisted that political participation should not be left to a small group of people, saying that citizens should have a voice in determining who represents them.
According to him, economic development is to political participation because political decisions influence the environment in which economic activities take place.
Okereke charged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards where necessary and participate in the 2027 electoral process.
“I urged Nigerians to take greater interest in political participation, elected representatives at the federal, state and local levels make decisions that affect citizens’ everyday lives,” he said.
Okereke who endorsed Gov. Alex Otti of Abia and other candidates of the party, said that the Labour Party is out to provide leadership that will improve the socio-economic condition of Nigerians.
He said that the party’s campaign is centred on demonstrating how governance could be approached differently, urging citizens to vote massively for the party across all elections.
The presidential candidate said that political leadership should ultimately improve the socio-economic conditions of citizens.
Okereke said that under his watch, Nigeria must function as a federation as he would ensure local government system works introduce zero based budgeting technique and a full reset of Nigeria’s institutional governance approach anchored on the “Nigerians First Vision.”
He said if elected president in 2027, he would ensure youth and women development through inclusion and participatory governance.
The candidate said that he would ensure the expansion Federal Character’ scope beyond ethnicity to include youth, women, Persons With Disabilities etc and ultimately ending palliative and distributive economy to full productive economy.
“Democracy should not merely be about elections but should translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.
“In Abia, Gov. Otti through his developmental strides has increased the happiness index and human development index from zero to 99 per cent.
“Democracy must deliver happiness to the Nigerian people. Democracy must improve the lives of people,” Okereke said. (NAN)(NAN)
