Empowerment
The Federal Government will train and empower 200 youths in Oyo State with vocational skills and start-up kits under its National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS).
The phased initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical, marketable skills and tools to pursue entrepreneurship and build sustainable livelihoods.
The programme, coordinated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE) is scheduled for Sept. 28 to Oct. 9.
Dr Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (TVEE), disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
She said the initiative, which begins with the South-West phase, would be replicated across the six geopolitical zones to expand access to skills, tools and livelihood opportunities.
Arogundade said beneficiaries would receive training in three tracks: Graphics/Artificial Intelligence (AI), Makeup and Fashion Designing.
She said each participant would receive a complete training kit to enable them commence or expand their chosen enterprise after the programme.
She also said that graphics/AI trainees will receive laptops, while Makeup trainees will receive fully equipped makeup kits to support their transition from training to enterprise.
Fashion Designing trainees, she said, will receive sewing machines and starter kits to help them turn their newly acquired skills into sustainable businesses.
The programme will culminate in a grand finale on Oct. 9, marking the completion of the training for the beneficiaries.
As part of the Federal Government’s digital empowerment drive, 500 tablets will also be distributed to young Nigerians during the grand finale.
Arogundade said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to equipping young Nigerians with practical skills, productive tools and opportunities for economic participation.
Through the NPRGS, the government is supporting skills development and entrepreneurship as pathways to improved livelihoods and greater economic opportunities for Nigerian youths. (NAN)
