Manchester City striker Erling Haaland scored his 300th club career goal as his club defeated Coventry City 1-0 on Sunday at the Etihad stadium.
The Norwegian striker was the difference as City maintain their perfect start to the season but his goal meant even more on a personal level.
It was Haaland’s third goal of the season and his 300th club career goal across five different clubs.
The hitman found the back of the net in the 26th minute when debutant Enzo Fernandez sent a brilliant pass to Antoine Semenyo. The winger’s cross went pass the Coventry goalkeeper, and Haaland powered a header into the empty net.
It was also a debut to remember for Enzo Fernandez who formed a solid midfield partnership with another new signing Eliot Anderson.
Both led the midfield for a City side that had 803 completed passes on the afternoon, their highest since a 2-0 win over Sheffield United in 2023
Manchester City Manager Enzo Maresca said he is happy his side played together as a team.
“I really liked today for different reasons.First half we could have scored one or two more, but we worked together to win so I am happy,” he said.
Maresca described Enzo Fernandez’s debut as ideal even though the Argentine only learned minutes before kickoff that he would be making his debut.
“In warm-up Nico O’Reilly felt something in his back, not serious.Enzo came in, his first appearance in front of the home fans was ideal,” he said.
The victory kept Merasca’s men perfect with nine points from three games as they continue to rebuild after the departures of manager Pep Guardiola and Midfielder Rodri. (Reuters/NAN)
