Newly installed traditional ruler in Lagos has urged youths to shun voter apathy and actively participate in governance to shape the state’s future.

Oba Abdulkabir Bashiru, the Olu of Oko-Baba Agba Oworonshoki, under Kosofe Local Government Area, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday formally presented the Staff of Office to the traditional ruler.

Bashiru thanked Gov. Sanwo-Olu for his installation as the paramount ruler of the community and assured residents of improved human and infrastructural development.

He charged youth on social engagement, cultural preservation, and peaceful political participation.

“We will ensure that the residents are majorly empowered through skills acquisition and vocations that will ensure that they are self reliant.

“We will also partner government and private sectors to employ our graduates who are seeking employment, as we take Oworonshoki to the next level,” the traditional ruler said.

He called for issue-based campaigns and discouraged the use of youths for electoral violence, vote buying, stressing that political differences should not destroy community relationships.

Bashir also canvassed youths to cast their votes for President Bola Tinubu, for continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Oworonshoki is the home of All Progressives Congress (APC) and we are ready to cast our vote for President Tinubu to continue his good work and policies.

“The President is ready to create policies that resonate with economic realities as we encourage youths to take governance seriously and avoid apathy.

“We also want youths to understand governance systems and actively participate, as passivity leads to exclusion,” he said.

NAN reports that the Olu of Oko Baba Agba, Oba Bashiru, is one of the sons of the late first traditional ruler of Oworonsoki community, Oba Bashiru Saliu, who joined his ancestors on Aug. 30, 2021 at the age of 72. (NAN)
