) Shell has reiterated its commitment to safety in its operations and those of its contractors in Nigeria.

Mrs Gladys Afam-Anadu, Shell’s Communications Manager disclosed this on Thursday in a statement on the company’s annual Leadership and Contractor CEO Conference.

She said that the conference brought together chief executives of contracting companies to reinforce the need to sustain safe operations across Shell’s businesses in Nigeria.

According to her, the conference with theme: “Learn, Adapt, Improve” focused on a shared commitment to people, performance and safety.

She quoted Shell’s Executive Vice President and Country Chair, Mrs Elohor Aiboni, as saying that safety remained the foremost measure of success in delivering the company’s projects and operations.

“Shell is delivering an extensive portfolio of projects and operations that will help to meet Nigeria’s growing energy needs, create value for stakeholders and support national development.

“No matter how significant the opportunity or important the project, our success will always be measured first by how safely we deliver it. That is why this conference matters,” the statement read in parts.

Afam-Anadu said the conference featured discussions, sharing of lessons, exhibition, and awards and recognition for outstanding safety performance.

She said that a major highlight was the signing of the Leadership Charter, jointly developed in 2025 through collaboration between Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) and its contractor partners.

The shell official quoted SNEPCo Managing Director, Mr Ronald Adams, as saying that the conference theme aligned strongly with the purpose of the charter.

“To learn, we must be honest about what has worked, what has been difficult, and what our people and operations are telling us.

“To adapt, we must be willing to adjust our approach where the realities of work require us to do better,” the statement read.

Afam-Anadu said that the commitments contained in the charter must be embedded in leadership, engagement, performance reviews and daily support for safe execution. (NAN)
