Deputy Governor of Edo, Mr Dennis Idahosa, on Sunday urged youths in the state to shun social vices including cultism, kidnapping, drug abuse, internet fraud and others.
He said engaging in social vices remained the greatest threat to their future.
Idahosa gave the advice at the 2026 Youth Harvest and Thanksgiving of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin, where he also announced a donation of N10 million towards the church’s proposed building project.
He said the state government, under Gov. Monday Okpebholo, remained committed to empowering youths through skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, job creation and a business-friendly environment.
According to him, the government vision is to raise a generation of youths who will become job creators, innovators and responsible leaders capable of driving the state’s development.
The deputy governor further urged youths in the state to remain focused, embrace hard work, acquire useful skills and associate with people who would positively influence their lives.
“The decisions you make today will determine the tomorrow you inherit. Stay away from every activity that can undermine your God given potential,” he said.
Idahosa later announced the N10 million donation on behalf of himself, his friends and the state governor in support of the church’s building project.
The donation was followed by separate cash and building material pledges from members of his entourage.
Earlier, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Charles Omogiate, appealed for support towards the ongoing building project in the parish.(NAN)
