The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships to improve personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.
Shaibu said this while receiving a delegation from Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), led by its Executive Director, Mr Ahmed Liman, on a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday.
He described GTBank as a dependable institutional partner whose financial services had complemented the Army’s transformation efforts through improved financial inclusion and administrative efficiency.
The army chief said the ongoing expansion of the Nigerian Army and increased recruitment approved by President Bola Tinubu required a technology-driven banking system capable of delivering seamless services to personnel across formations.
He commended GTBank’s leadership in digital banking and expressed confidence that stronger collaboration would further enhance financial service delivery and support operational readiness.
Shaibu urged the bank to expand its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to support wounded soldiers, widows and orphans of fallen personnel in line with the Army’s “Soldier First” welfare policy.
He also requested the deployment of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to newly established and remote military barracks to improve access to banking services and reduce unnecessary troop movement.
Earlier, Liman commended the Nigerian Army for its commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty and protecting lives and property.
He reaffirmed GTBank’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Army through tailored financial solutions that support its operational and administrative requirements while complying with the Treasury Single Account policy.
According to him, the bank offers specialised services for government institutions, including dedicated trade desks for processing Letters of Credit for defence procurement, digital salary administration, contractor payment platforms and institutional funds management solutions.
Liman also highlighted GTBank’s military-focused products, including the GT Patriot Account, which offers waived banking charges and concessionary lending rates for military personnel, as well as pension management services designed to improve long-term financial security. (NAN) (www
