The Zone V Headquarters has announced the assumption of duties of AIG Monday Agbonika, as the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the zone comprising Edo and Delta.
The announcement is contained in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), SP Tijani Momoh, on Thursday.
Momoh said Agbonika succeeded AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, who retired from the Nigerian Police Force on July 21.
Agbonika, hails from Idah Local Government Area of Kogi.
His career in the force commenced on May 18, 1992, when he enlisted into the force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and trained at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex in Kaduna State.
The AIG holds a Bsc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Jos, Msc in Organisational Psychology also from the University of Jos, another Masters Degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan, and a Ph.D in Peace and Conflict Studies (In View) in the University of Ibadan.
He attended all mandatory Police Courses, (psc) at the Police Staff College in Jos, a Fellow, Society for Peace Studies and Practice, (fspsp), and a Fellow of the National Defence College Nigeria, (fdc).
Agbonika previously served as the Commissioner of Police, Edo Command, an office he held until his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police on May, 18, and his subsequent redeployment as the AIG Zone 5 Benin.
He brings over three decades of NPF experience spanning criminal investigations, administration, public information, divisional and area command, state command, and now zonal command.
He also served as the Commissioner of Police, Mounted Troop, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja,” the ZPPRO said.
Momoh added that Agbonika is an alumnus of the International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP) on the Role of State Police in the Criminal Justice System of the USA.
The new AIG called on residents of Edo and Delta to assist the police with useful and timely information that would help the zone in the fight against crimes and criminal elements..(NAN)
