The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday inaugurated and took over a newly built divisional headquarters in Odo-Ayandelu, Lagos State.
The facility, handed over by community stakeholders, is expected to strengthen security operations in the border community.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, security personnel, traditional rulers and residents.
Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, said the facility would improve rapid response to security threats and boost intelligence gathering.
Keshinro said the location was strategic because Odo-Ayandelu shares a border with Ogun and faces growing security challenges.
“This place is a border town that borders Ogun, and we know the security situation that we are facing of recent,” he said.
He said the divisional headquarters would enable personnel to respond quickly to distress calls and strengthen surveillance across the area.
“Having them here will make it possible for them to have a response quickly to whatever call they have and to be able to carry out more intelligence gathering in this environment,” he said.
Keshinro added that the facility would support the corps’ school protection mandate and improve service delivery.
He said a conducive working environment would boost personnel morale and encourage them to remain at their duty posts.
“Having a conducive environment to work will boost the morale of the personnel, and it will make them want to stay here to do the job,” he said.
He added that projects of such nature would assist personnel in carrying out their duties diligently.
Community leaders described the project as a major boost to security in Odo-Ayandelu and neighbouring communities.
They expressed confidence that the headquarters would improve public safety, encourage investment and strengthen cooperation between residents and the NSCDC.
The ceremony featured the unveiling of the building, inspection of the facilities and formal handover of the headquarters to the corps for operational use. (NAN)
