
The Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mr Tosin Olokun, has expressed deep sympathy over the recent bandit attack on Odo-Ere community.
Olokun, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lokoja, assured residents that government was intensifying efforts to address insecurity in the area, describing the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking.
The attack, which occurred on Monday night, claimed the life of a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Olokun, who also serves as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, expressed concern over the abduction of the deceased’s daughter during the attack, noting that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure her release.
“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident.
“On behalf of the government and people of Yagba West, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Odo-Ere, and all those affected by the attack,” he said.
The chairman prayed for the repose of the deceased and urged the family to remain strong in the face of the loss.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the local government to tackling insecurity and restoring lasting peace across communities in the area and neighbouring local governments.
According to him, the government will continue to work closely with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to combat banditry and other criminal activities threatening lives and property.
Olokun also called on residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information that could aid in apprehending criminal elements.
He further prayed for the safe return of all persons currently in captivity and assured residents that the government would not relent in its determination to safeguard lives and property.
