The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr Ibraheem Abdul, has charged newly-elected deans and Heads of Departments (HODs) of the institution to adopt transformative leadership anchored on integrity, innovation and accountability.
Abdul gave the charge during a one-day induction workshop organised by the institution’s Staff Development Department for the deans and HODs, according to a statement.
The statement was issued by Mr Adekunle Adams. Deputy Registrar, Centre for Communication, Information and Public Relations, Yabatech.
Abdul described the emergence of the leaders as a defining moment, saying that the institution stood at the threshold of transformation as it would be approaching its 80th anniversary.
“You have been given a platform. Use it positively to transform your departments and schools exponentially while demonstrating vision, commitment and a growth mindset,” he said.
The rector expressed the optimism that Yabatech would continue to rank among Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions.
“We want to remain at the top through innovation, research excellence and rigorous academic standards.
He urged the deans and HODs to discourage outdated teaching practices, promote critical thinking and foster research and innovation across all departments.
He declared zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and exploitation, warning that any infraction would be treated as leadership failure.
Henceforth, any case of unauthorised fees, bribery or exploitation traced to any department will be treated as failure of leadership, and cover ups will attract serious consequences,” Abdul said.
He emphasised accountability, transparency and student-centred leadership.
