The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four suspects for allegedly impersonating the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to defraud a senior military officer of ₦150 million.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Olayinka, one of the suspects, residing at No. 3 Martin Elegoma Street, Nigerian Army Post Housing Estate, Phase 1, Kurudu, was apprehended on Tuesday.
He said the suspect allegedly defrauded retired Maj.-Gen. A. K. Ibrahim and several others of more than ₦150 million under the guise of facilitating a land transaction at Guzape II Cadastral Zone, Abuja.
The suspect reportedly convinced the victims that he worked closely with the FCT Minister and the Director of Lands at the FCT Administration, enabling him to secure land documents for Plot 1985 in Guzape II, measuring three hectares, as well as other plots.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly named two officials of the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) as accomplices. He also identified another collaborator residing at No. 2 Chief Palace Road, Durumi 2, Abuja.
“All four suspects are currently under investigation,” Olayinka said. (NAN)
