The Wife of Anambra Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged the public to break the stigma and silence surrounding mental health issues through professional guidance.
The governor’s wife made the call on Saturday in Awka in a message to mark the 2026 World Mental Health Day, observed annually on Oct. 10.
Soludo also called for open conversations to create a society where seeking professional help was a sign of strength rather than weakness.
She emphasised that mental health was as important as physical health, urging people to show kindness and support to those experiencing emotional and psychological challenges.
“Behind every smile may be a silent struggle, and sometimes, the greatest act of kindness is to listen, show compassion, and remind someone that they are not alone,” she said.
Soludo reassured people experiencing mental health challenges that their feelings and wellbeing mattered, urging them to seek support when necessary.
“Your mental health matters. Your feelings matter and you do matter,” she said.
The World Mental Health Day is observed annually to raise awareness of mental health issues and mobilise efforts to support mental wellbeing worldwide.
The 2026 commemoration had the theme – “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”. (NAN).
