NANS Zone A passes vote of confidence in NTI chief executive
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone A, on Friday passed a vote of confidence in NTI Director and Chief Executive, Prof. Sadiya Sani Daura, during a courtesy visit.
The association also conferred an Award of Excellence on Daura and inducted her into the NANS Hall of Fame in recognition of her administration’s efforts at repositioning the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna.
Speaking during the visit, NANS Zone A Coordinator, Mr Umar Doko, said the delegation was at the Institute to appreciate Daura for her prompt response to the plight of NTI graduates.
Doko said the association particularly recognised the efforts of the NTI management towards addressing outstanding certification challenges and releasing pending certificates to beneficiaries.
In an address presented on behalf of the NANS North-West Secretariat, Doko said the steps taken by the Institute had helped restore confidence between NTI and its beneficiaries.
“We have termed NTI leadership that it connects policy with people, and by extension, we have passed a vote of confidence in Prof. Daura’s administration,” he said.
The association also commended the NTI management for improving internal systems, strengthening service delivery, resuscitating standing committees, digitalising operations and prioritising staff welfare and promotions.
NANS Zone A further acknowledged the Federal Government’s emphasis on teacher and human capital development through the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP), being delivered by NTI and other education-sector agencies.
It said the ATPP framework, which includes the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) routes, would contribute to strengthening teacher competence and professional standards.
The association commended the Federal Ministry of Education, under the leadership of the Minister, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, for their roles in advancing the initiative.
It, however, called for sustained institutional support for NTI to enable the Institute to effectively discharge its mandate in teacher education and professional development.
Receiving the award, Daura said she considered the challenges confronting NTI surmountable when she assumed office and consequently adopted a solution-based approach to administration.
She attributed the achievements recorded by the Institute to her participatory management style, which, according to her, carries staff and relevant stakeholders along.
Daura said the award was a testament to the commitment of the management to reposition the Institute and had further motivated it to pursue its institutional transformation agenda.
She expressed appreciation to NANS Zone A for recognising the administration’s efforts and described the students’ body as a progressive partner in teacher education and the broader education sector.
On the issue of pending certificates, Daura expressed optimism that the challenge would soon become history, saying affiliating universities involved in the certification process were committed to working with NTI.
She disclosed that another batch of pending certificates would soon be released, adding that graduates and the general public would be informed through appropriate communication channels.
Earlier, the Acting Registrar and Secretary to the NTI Council, Mallam Yusuf Aliyu, said management had remained concerned about challenges associated with the processing and release of outstanding certificates.
Aliyu said the Institute was engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure that certificates were processed and released to graduates in a timely manner.
He disclosed that NTI had released a total of 16,715 certificates between February 2026 and September 2026, with more certificates expected to be released. (NAN)
