The Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) has received the 2026 International Society for Stem Cell Application (ISSCA) Global Award for its Parabolic- Shaped Solar Dryer (PSSD)in the agribusiness and market system category.
The institute’s Spokesperson Moshood Akintola said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
Akintola noted that the award was presented to NSPRI at New-Delhi,India at the 2026 Dryland Congress.
NAN reports that ISSCA awards are flagship initiative by the ISSCA and partners to identify, validate and celebrate scalable agricultural technologies and innovations from across the Global South.
The purpose of the 2026 ISSCA awards is to promote technology transfer through South-South Cooperation and build a verified repository of agricultural solutions among others.
Akintola quoted the Executive Director of NSPRI, Prof. Lateef Sanni, as describing the award as a global recognition of the institute’s efforts in driving innovations that reduce post-harvest challenges confronting farmers and investors alike.
Sanni said the award was in recognition and acknowledgement of the institute outstanding contributions to agriculture.
“The PSSD which offers a practical approach to post-harvest management helps farmers and value-chain actors to reduce losses while improving the quality and shelf life of agricultural products.
“The ISSCA award are run by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Centre of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture.
“I lauded the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu which provided a platform in its Sustainable Food Security Project for the promotion of solar drying technologies to improve food processing across various agro-ecological zones nationwide,”he said.(NAN)
