The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), on Tuesday, presented certificates of return to the 21 Local Government Chairmen-elect.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all the chairmen-elect emerged on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The certificates were presented at the commission’s secretariat in Awka.

The commission also presented certificates of return to the Deputy Chairmen-elect and Councillors-elect.

The certificates were issued following the outcome of last Saturday’s Local Government Elections in the state.

In a speech at the event, the ANSIEC Chairman, Mrs Genevieve Osakwe, said that APGA won the Chairmanship elections in all the 21 LGAs.

Osakwe, however, said the Young Progressives Party won two of the 326 councillorship seats in Ajali and Ndikelionwu Wards in Orumba North LGA.

She said that APGA won the remaining councillorship seats across the state.

“The election was free, fair and credible. I commend the electorate for turning out to exercise their franchise.

“We appreciate the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during the exercise,” Osakwe said.

Speaking to newsmen after receiving his certificate of return, the Chairman-elect for Njikoka LGA, Dr Ikechukwu Okeakpu, expressed appreciation to the people of the area for entrusting him with the mandate to serve them.

Okeakpu pledged to work in alignment with the vision of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for the development of Anambra.

He also assured the people of Njikoka of inclusive and purposeful leadership.(NAN)
