The Chairman, Badagry Local Government, Mr Babatunde Hunpe has distributed food palliatives to 500 widows, as part of activities to mark its one year anniversary.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday at the secretariat, Hunpe said that the gesture was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Food Palliative agenda, to help alleviate poverty for the widows.
He said that his administration would continue to run an all inclusive government with the sole purpose of carrying everyone along, so that they could be beneficiaries of democracy.
“Last week, we distributed food palliatives to the elderly citizens in the community and we have done so again by distributing palliatives to the widows to help put food on their table.
“We will also distribute palliatives to the general public before the week runs out, so that everyone in Badagry will benefit from the President’s renewed hope food palliative,” the chairman said.
He said that the widows who were too feeble to make it to the distribution centre, would have their palliatives brought to them, so that no one would be excluded from the gesture.
Hunpe said that the widows were selected randomly across the 10 wards of the local government.
“This is not the first time we are doing something like this and my administration will continue to carryout activities that will help cushion the effect of poverty in the community,” he said.
The chairman said that the council would also continue to ensure that the vision and mission for Badagry people were fulfilled through infrastructural development, economic empowerment, educational improvement, among others.
Mrs Catherine Ezemokwe, one of the beneficiaries of the palliative prayed for more wisdom, knowledge and understanding on the chairman for greater works.
Ezemokwe said that she was surprised by the generosity and quantity of the items presented to each widow, as she had initially expected the palliatives to be small.
“I am short of words and I can only ask God to continue blessing my chairman and his team for their care and love towards us, as widows,” Ezemokwe said.
Mrs Victoria Fidewuji, another beneficiary, expressed gratitude for the palliative, saying that it would go a long way in feeding her family for some time.
Fidewuji said that the items, which included rice, semovita, groundnut oil and other essential food items, would support healthy living.
She prayed for more blessings upon Hunpe and his team for the gesture. (NAN)
