) The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olatunji Disu has pledged the committment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustain its contribution to the U.S-Nigeria Joint Working Group (JWG) roadmap meeting.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Iniedu said the I-G made the pledge at the second meeting of the U.S-Nigeria Joint Working Group on the designation of Nigeria as Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
He said the meeting, held at the Washington DC had in attendance, the National Security Adviser, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defence as delegation from Nigeria.
Iniedu said the Service Chiefs and Heads of other security and law enforcement agencies were also part of the delegation.
He said the meeting reviewed progress on the Roadmap for the April to June 2026 reporting period and explored areas for strengthened cooperation.
“Presenting the NPF’s contributions, the I-G highlighted sustained counter-kidnapping and anti-banditry operations, strengthened Police presence in vulnerable communities, early-warning mechanisms and measures supporting the protection and safe return of Internally Displaced Persons.
“He disclosed that personnel from specialised police formations were deployed across vulnerable Local Government Areas during the reporting period to reinforce public safety and deter violent extremist and criminal groups.
“He also noted that the recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables is advancing towards the final pre-training stage, with preparations underway for comprehensive training based on an improved curriculum and international best practices,” Iniedu said.
The police spokesman said the I-G highlighted the Nigeria Police Force contributions to the implementation of the Joint Working Group Roadmap.
He said the contributions were through professional policing, community protection, strengthened investigative capacity and support for Nigeria’s broader security and rule-of-law objectives.
Iniedu said the I-G also, highlighted strengthened community engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders.
He said the I-G noted that public trust, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence were important in achieving sustainable security. (NAN)
