) Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, has said that the participation of corps members in Nigeria’s electoral process has helped in strengthening the credibility, transparency, and integrity of the country’s electoral process.
Lawal made the commendation while declaring open the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp in Gusau on Friday.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Malam Mani Mummuni, commended the contributions of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to Nigeria’s elections.
“I want to use this medium to commend the corps members for their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly their roles as ad-hoc officials during elections.
“Corps members have played important roles in previous elections. I urge those among you who may be selected to participate in the 2027 general elections to carry out your duties with patriotism and integrity.
“As the nation gradually prepares for the 2027 general elections, I call on those who will participate in the electoral process to discharge your responsibilities with diligence, integrity, patriotism, and a strong sense of duty,” he said.
The governor urged the corps members to continue to contribute to peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections, as well as to the peace, progress, and development of the country.
Lawal also urged the corps members to use their service year to contribute to the development of Zamfara, particularly in education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development.
“We will continue to encourage you to discharge your national service in a peaceful manner.
“You should feel at home in Zamfara. Take advantage of the available opportunities and strive to leave positive and lasting impacts in your host communities,” the governor said.
Lawal assured the NYSC management in the state of his administration’s continued support and commitment to achieving the objectives of the scheme.
Earlier, the NYSC Zamfara Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan, commended the Zamfara government for its support and cooperation toward the development of the NYSC scheme in the state.
Lawan said the swearing-in ceremony marked the formal induction of the corps members into the one-year NYSC programme.
He urged the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities.
“You should work to benefit from the numerous programmes designed to prepare you for the service year and life after national service,” the coordinator added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Zamfara High Court, Aishatu Jibrin, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members. (NAN)
