Badagry Local Government Chairman, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, has promised continued improvement in the infrastructural, educational and health sectors within the community.
Hunpe made the promise on Wednesday at the council’s secretariat as he commemorated his administration’s one year in office in Badagry.
He said that his administration assumed office with a solemn commitment to provide responsive governance, promote inclusive development and improve the welfare of the people.
“Over the past year, our administration has remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy through people-oriented policies and programmes.
“We have worked to strengthen grassroots governance, improve service delivery, engage in collaboration with stakeholders and lay a solid foundation for sustainable development across our communities.
“While challenges remain, we are encouraged by the progress we have made together and remain committed to doing even more,” the chairman said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme began with an interdenominational prayer session which culminated with the presentation of official vehicles to councillors.
He said that the presentation of the vehicles to the councillors represented another significant step at strengthening governance at the grassroots level, ensuring that their theme: “Greater Badagry Rising” was achieved.
“These vehicles are not symbols of privilege or luxury, but tools for effective service intended to enhance the mobility of the councillors.
“This will enable them to engage more closely with their council, monitor projects, respond promptly to community needs and effectively discharge their legislative and oversight responsibilities.
“I urge every beneficiary to make prudent and responsible use of these vehicles to bring governance closer to the people and to promote greater accountability, accessibility and efficient representation,” Hunpe said.
He said that reflecting on the journey so far gave a sense of fulfilment, and gratitude to God for His guidance, protection, and abundant grace.
“The inter-denominational prayer session is a demonstration of our firm belief that every meaningful achievement is made possible through the grace of God.
“Therefore, I sincerely appreciate the steadfast prayers and spiritual guidance of our religious leaders which have continued to strengthen our society.
“Your prayers have remained invaluable to the peace, unity, and progress of Badagry and we solicit your continuous intercession, as we strive to build a more prosperous and harmonious local government,” the chairman said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and sustainable development as they begin their second year in office.
“We shall continue to initiate projects that improve infrastructure, promote economic empowerment, support education and healthcare, strengthen security collaboration, protect our cultural heritage and enhance the overall quality of life.
“Together with God’s guidance and the continued support of our people, I am confident that we will achieve even greater milestones and lead the lasting legacy of good governance,” Hunpe said.
Mr Moses Ogunbiyi, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Apex Leader, Badagry, said that at least three major roads had been constructed, and that health centres and school had also been upgraded to meet the required standard.
“These developments, evident enough in Badagry will easily help us win the numbers and facilitate a victory for the party in the coming 2027 elections,” Ogunbiyi said.
Alh. Kikelomo Ladipo, the APC Apex Woman leader, Badagry zone, expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the current administration in just one year.
Ladipo said that the infrastructural developments could be seen around the community and encouraged the chairman to do better in the second year. (NAN)
