Maj.-Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda assumes duty as 56th GOC 2 Division, Nigerian Army

 Maj.-Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda assumed duty as the 56th General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, on Monday.

Mahmuda took over from the outgoing GOC, Maj.-Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, who was transferred to head the newly established 10 Division in Jalingo, Taraba.

The symbolic handing and taking over ceremony took place at 2 Division Headquarters, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking, the new GOC thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu for finding him worthy of the appointment.

Mahmuda further assured of his commitment to take the Division to an enviable heights, adding that it was a rare opportunity to be appointed to command one of the premier Divisions in the Nigerian Army.

He commended the immediate past GOC for the achievements recorded during his leadership of the Division and pledged to build on the legacies left behind.

Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing GOC, Nnebeife, appreciated the COAS for the opportunity given to him to command the Division and his subsequent appointment to command one of the newly established Divisions in the NA.

Nnebeife said that since his assumption of command on Aug. 19,  2025, the Division under his watch had achieved a lot both operationally and in other areas.

He thanked all the commanders and staff officers for their cooperation and support which enabled the Division to record tremendous achievements including the recent rescue of kidnapped Oriire school children on July 10. (NAn
