) The Federal Government in collaboration with the Anambra Government is set to revive the abandoned 132KV electricity transmission line project in thestate.
Anambra Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Chijioke Ojukwu, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area on Tuesday.
Ojukwu said the state government had finalised arrangements to facilitate its successful execution.
Ojukwu said the transmission line project, initiated by the Federal Government about 10 years ago but later abandoned, would now be executed through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
He outlined measures already initiated to support the project.
According to him, the state governmentwis developing a framework to ensure fair compensation for owners of buildings and lands affected by the acquisition of the project’s right-of-way corridor.
“The transmission line will pass through Nnobi, Awka-Etiti and Nnewi, and is expected to improve electricity supply while stimulating economic activities across the benefiting communities.
“The government has completed the identification and marking of the right-of-way and will soon commence documentation and verification of compensation claims by affected property owners.
“We appeal to residents affected by the project to cooperate with the government.
“We assure them that the Gov. Chukwuma SSoludo’s administration will ensure a fair and transparent compensation process,” he said. (NAN)
