Employee docked for allegedly stealing colleagues’ phones

The police on Monday, dragged a 23-year-old employee of Gadco company Jericho, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, for allegedly stealing  his colleagues’ mobile phones.

The defendant, Opeyemi Lawal is standing trial on a two -count charge bordering on stealing.

He, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang alleged that the defendant committed the offences on June 10 and May 22, at the company.

He alleged that the defendant stole an Itel phone worth N120,000, belonging to a colleague named Mr Elijah Bernard.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant stole an iphone XR worth N185,000 belonging to another colleague one Mr Miracle Emmanuel.

He alleged that the defendant was eventually arrested following police investigations.

The offences contravene the provisions of Section 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwaferanmi Raji granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Among other conditions, the court held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.

She consequently, adjourned the case until July 16, for mention.
