Court orders remand of 5 over alleged assault, unlawful damage.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday, ordered the remand of five men at the correctional centre over alleged assault.
The defendants are: Jeremiah Obiwulu, 22; Ogunsola Lateef, 23; Adesola Adetule, 23; Adewunmi Pelumi, 23; and Owolabi Adeeyo, 22.
They are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, breach of peace, unlawful damage and assault.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 16, at Iyana- Ekoro, in Alimosho area of Lagos.
She alleged that the defendants conspired to assault one Mr Michael Anu, by inflicting injuries on him with a broken bottle.
They were also alleged to have unlawfully damaged properties belonging to the complainant.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168, 173, 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A Owolabi, did not take the plea of the defendants.
He, consequently, ordered that they be remanded at the correctional facility, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case until April 3, for mention.
